Air controllers halt 'working without initiative' action

The Air Traffic Controllers and Other Transport Workers Union (HTK-SEN) announced that the 'working without initiative' (İAÇ) action for the demand for personnel rights has been terminated.

The controllers who continued the IAC action decided to stop the action after talks with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

In a statement made by HTK-SEN, it was stated that “Considering that our voices are heard by our President, who is the highest decision-making authority, and that our demands regarding our personal rights will be met, it has been decided to end our work activities as of today, without taking any initiative, due to the fact that the Turkish Grand National Assembly has also suspended its work.”

The statement stated that the ministries (Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and Ministry of Culture and Tourism) promised that the issue would be brought to the agenda when the Turkish Grand National Assembly opened in October and that positive regulations would be made regarding aviation compensation, and the following was recorded:

“As it is known, our uninitiated work activity, which we started approximately two months ago in line with the personal rights of our air traffic controllers and the interests of our country, has created great awareness in the public, and ultimately, our President himself has instructed us to resolve the issue.

Following the high-level meetings we held and the contacts we established with the authorities, the relevant ministries and authorities gave the guarantee that a law study on aviation compensation would be put on the agenda of the Turkish Grand National Assembly in October and enacted. While this is a positive development, it is of great importance to take a concrete step towards institutional structuring, which is the main solution to the problem.

In the upcoming period, we will continue our work to implement the solution proposed by the Court of Accounts regarding the separation of strategic navigation services from commercial airport management services, as is the case in all 40 EUROCONTROL member countries except Turkey. In fact, only in this way will it be possible to prevent the loss of hundreds of millions of Euros every year. Our main goal is to provide a permanent solution that will bring this amount to our country.

At this point, considering the fact that our voices are heard by our President, who is the highest decision-making authority, and that our demands regarding our personal rights will be met, it has been decided to terminate our work activities as of today, without taking any initiative, since the Turkish Grand National Assembly has also suspended its work.

We would like to express our gratitude to our President, who gave the necessary instructions for the solution of the issue, and to our valuable air traffic controllers and all our members, who have successfully continued our activities to this day and have made great efforts to make our voices heard.”
